The eastward trajectory of a Super Pressure Balloon (SPB) launched from Wanaka, New Zealand, is depicted above. This flight, propelled by westerly stratospheric winds, almost circumnavigated the Earth.
The altitude of the flight remained very stable, a characteristic of Super Pressure Balloons. These balloons maintain a constant volume, making them less subject to day/night heating and cooling than conventional Zero Pressure Balloons.
