Safety Team Grows – Summer, 2009
Safety gains new employees from both near and far. Kenny Volante traveled from Stennis Space Center (SSC) to join Institutional Safety and Mission Assurance as an Emergency Management Specialist. Chris Helser, a previous Wisconsinite, joins us as an Institutional Safety Certified Safety Professional. Daniel Zamora, a recent college graduate, is the new Institutional Safety database programmer. And finally, Debbie Stanley came back to Flight Safety after many years of working in NENS. They are all great additions to the team!

Safety Holiday Luncheon and Food Drive – December 16, 2008
The Safety team enjoyed a nice lunch at AJ's on the Creek. Each person was asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the local food banks in Maryland and Virginia. Over 50 pounds of food was donated!

Gene Furness retired effective December 1 with 25 years of government service. He was an aerospace engineering technician in the Safety and Mission Assurance branch.

Glen Liebig comes to Wallops from Stennis Space Center (SSC) with a fresh perspective on institutional safety and mission assurance and great leadership qualities.
New Retiree – Terry Potterton – July 3, 2008
Terry Potterton retired effective July 3 with 34 years of government service. At the time of his retirement, he was head of the Safety and Mission Assurance Branch.

2008 NASA Honor Awards – May 13, 2008
NASA Exceptional Service Medal presented to Mike Patterson for notable competence and resourcefulness in guiding the Wallops Flight Facility range safety through difficult and exciting challenges.
Group Achievement Award presented to 2007 Poker Sounding Rocket Team for outstanding dedication, sacrifice and technical implementation of 2007 Poker Flat sounding rocket campaign – the most complex and challenging Poker campaign to date.
Group Achievement Award also presented to Wallops ELV Launch Team for successfully launching the NFIRE and TacSat-2 missions within just four months of each other, both safely and on schedule.
