GROUP PROGRAMS


The NASA Wallops Visitor Center offers fun, interactive educational programs FREE to visiting school/educational and civic groups.  These programs range from special presentations and films, to age- appropriate tours of the NASA Wallops Flight Facility.  A variety of subjects are available, designed to compliment Virginia and Maryland Standards of Learning (listed with each program description).  Only one program will be conducted per group visit.

To schedule a program :  Please contact the Visitor Center a minimum of  2 weeks prior to your visit.  Group programs and tours are scheduled based on availability.

GROUP PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS


Group programs include a visit to the exhibit hall and one of the following program topics.

Pre-K and K

+ Puppets in Space
With help from Sam the monkey, puppet astronauts Jeff and Jenny talk about what it's like to live and work in space.  The puppets explain why astronauts need to wear a spacesuit, what they eat and how they go about their day.  The 10-minute puppet show is followed by a short movie.

+ The Night Sky
You don't need a telescope to explore many of the wonders of the night sky.   In this 30-minute program students will learn the basics of the stars and moon.   Plus, they'll discover many other objects visible in the night sky to the naked eye, including planets, comets, satellites and meteors.

1st and 2nd Grade

+ Puppets in Space

Explore the uses of different aircraft and how they have become a major part of world transportation and scientific research.  This program lasts approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

+ Living in Space
What is it like to live and work in space?  How do astronauts eat, sleep and use the bathroom in space?  What is air pressure?  Gravity?  Microgravity?  Learn all about the space environment while participating in this interactive 1 hour program!

+ Sun-Earth Connections
  45 minutes about our sun - what it's made of? Why is it important to us?  Topics include day and night cycles, seasons and aurora.
