MONTHLY PUBLIC PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

+ Model Rocket Launch (All Ages) - May 5
A model rocket launch will be held at 1pm on the Visitor Center grounds.  Models of various rockets will be launched.  Model rocketeers are invited to bring their own rockets to launch.  The launch will be cancelled if it is raining or winds exceed 18 mph.  Program will last 45 minutes.

+ Milky Ways & Globular Clusters Children's Program - May 12
Discover the Milky Way and our neighboring galaxies.  Following the presentation, each family will make their own craft to take home with them.  The program begins at 1pm and will last 1 hour.

+ Science on the Shore - Native Plants: They're Shore Beautiful! (All Ages)- May 19
Learn all about the benefits of planting Eastern Shore natives from a Plant ES Native Campaign Community Leader.  Parents:  there will be a "story time" for kids during the presentation too!   Afterward, all participants (parents and children) will come together to plant their own native flowers to take home with them.  The presentation will last 1 hour.

Sponsored by the Plant ES Natives Campaign, NASA and the Marine Science Consortium.  Registration is recommended.  To register call Anne Armstrong 757/824.5636

The Science on the Shore series is a collaborative effort of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Marine Science Consortium, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, The Nature Conservancy and the Eastern Shore Community College.

+ Light Storms Children's Program - May 19
It's not magic, it's AURORA!  The mysteries of auroras are revealed in this 60 minute program.  Following the presentation, participants will make a craft to take home with them.  The program begins at 1pm.

+Solar System  Children's Program - May 26
Eight planets around the sun... How do they differ?  Some are made of rock, others of gas. Some have rings, some do not.  Do they all have moons?  This 60 minute program takes participants on a journey through our solar system.  The program begins at 1pm.


* The Gift Shop hours are the same as the Visitor Center.

WEEKLY PUBLIC PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
+ Space Ace
Young explorers can earn a NASA lithograph and "Space Ace" certificate by completing an activity sheet during their visit.  Ask at the Front Desk for an activity sheet.
